Teachers: How to Order Bleeding Control Kits With Classroom Supply Money

classroom bleeding control kit, Teachers: How to Order Bleeding Control Kits With Classroom Supply Money

This year, you might notice you are not purchasing as much paper and supplies for your classroom. My students all have Chromebooks, and due to Covid, we are not handing papers back and forth. Over half of my students are enrolled in courses through a digital option. Even my pencil sharpener is stored away this year. Here’s your perfect opportunity to use some of your supply money for a decent bleeding control kit that will last you for years.

Truly, this year is your perfect opportunity to invest in a bleeding control kit, since you probably have greatly reduced your use of consumables. Then, give yourself the gift of some advanced first aid bleeding control training.

As a classroom teacher, you know that in the event of an active shooter on your campus, you are “the help until the help arrives.” Also, you know that means EMT’s will not be at your door before the building has been cleared. This could be at least ten minutes, if not more.

With only three to four minutes to stop bleeding, you need to have supplies in your own classroom. If your county has an online site for using your classroom supply money, consider at the very least, getting at least one bleeding control kit each year.

Spend Your Supply Money

If you have unspent supply money – equip your room, and your neighbors’, for bleeding control. You can order a first aid kit designed specifically for stopping bleeding for one person from Class Wallet.

This article shows you how to order from Class Wallet, however, wherever your classroom supply money is kept; you are going to find it easier and easier to order first aid supplies with classroom supply money. You aren’t even going to have any trouble fitting them under the “consumables” category since they actually are classified thus.

I urge you; please use just $60 of your supply money for one bleeding control kit. Then buy another at the beginning of the next school year so you are prepared.

Colored Pencils?

This is not the year for stocking up on glue sticks and crayons, or items that students touch and share.

No. I don’t want you to buy paper or consumables with your supply money. I’m the teacher who wants you to buy a Classroom Blow Out Kit. Classroom Stop the Bleed Kit. And get training.

Here’s How:

Once on Class Wallet, look for the vendor named School Specialty Select. It has a blue and green logo with a cartoon person with arms outstretched.
In the search bar at the top, type North American Rescue, then sort by Price – Low to High.

Anything from the basic kit on up is probably more than you have in your class now. Then, please get some training beyond basic First Aid.  The beginning kit is good quality – however, if you want to plan for four to five sets of gear, you don’t really need four or five sets of safety scissors and gloves. The kit below is the kit that contains chest seals. The basic kit is exactly the same, minus the chest seals.

For a little more, you can have the same kit but in a nylon pouch. It’s not sealed, so might not be your first choice if choosing between it and the sealed kit below if you are not planning to add to it anyway. There are several other kits available on Class Wallet from NAR; you just have to compare the item lists for comparison.

Two kits are available that look similar to the sealed kit below. They are over $100, and the difference seems to be the inclusion of a different kind of gauze. I’d rather have more tourniquets for my money.

Here’s what you will see on Class Wallet. As the price increases, the number of items in the kits increase.

Teachers: How to Order a Rescue SRO Crisis Response Kit from Class Wallet

Once on Class Wallet, look for the vendor named School Specialty Select. It has a blue and green logo with a cartoon person with arms outstretched.
In the search bar at the top, type North American Rescue, then sort by Price – High to Low.

I found the kit I ordered for under $300. Although I possibly could have assembled all the individual items in it less expensively by purchasing them directly from North American Rescue – you know how this goes.

You can walk into an office supply store and purchase a stapler for $5, but on your approved site for spending your supply money, it will cost you $10. That is the cost of doing business with the company organizing all the purchasing. This is what you will see:

North American Rescue video training – warning – it’s rather graphic, but it’s what you really need to see.

Crisis Medicine – excellent training. History buffs and anyone who appreciates the backstory of whatever they are studying will appreciate the precise attention to detail. Also very graphic, and also what will serve you well to experience. Dr. Shertz from Crisis Medicine says the first time you see blood shouldn’t be when you have a loved one or student in front of you. Please use my link above and my code “DeepWH” for 20% off the Tactical Casualty Care TC2 online course.

Stop The Bleed Department of Homeland Security – The first course is very light. The second class is more in-depth, the third class is not online, but is in person.

There are other online courses, and tons more reference materials and videos online. If anyone comes across any that we can use for certification points; please let us all know. I do plan to submit my Crisis Medicine certificate to my own school district and see if I qualify for any of those hours spent taking the class as CEU’s – continuing education units for re-certification purposes.
